Here is the final painting, pending approval from the client. Below here are two earlier stages: Colors washed or scumbled in. All that's left to do is the blacks, tints, and the finishing touches. The monochrome stage in blue and raw umber.
The client and I agreed we liked the fourth, most finished idea but also the dynamic pose of Barda in the second, so I combined them for the final pencils:
I thought I'd share the progress of this privatly commissioned painting of the Jack Kirby New Gods characters, Big Barda and Mister Miricle of the planet Apokolips- Here are four roughs playing around with composition and poses:
"The Crypt Kid" is a horror graphic novel in progress that I am writing and illustrating: In a world lost to monsters from the bowels of the planet, is there anything left worth saving when the greatest horror of all threatens to emerge? And if the strength of the surviving humans is not enough, can a monster rise up to save them?
